This is a group project; all group members must submit identical project documents.

The project has two parts: 1) critique and design of consent management platforms and 2) data donation platform design.

1. Critique and design of consent management platforms (50%)

Collect an example of consent management/privacy notices in your daily web browsing experiences. Critically review the design of the data consent management experience to assess the presence of GDPR violations and dark patterns.

Submit documentation including:

Screenshots of the consent management/privacy notice example with explanation of what application/website it was found on. Note that consent management notices often include more than one page, especially if the user is given the option to consent to data to specific parties or for specific purposes. Your screenshots should give a comprehensive overview of the respective consent management design. (10%)
Your critical review of the example, including explanation of perceived GDPR violations and/or dark patterns or, otherwise, positive commentary on how the consent management design effectively adhere to GPDR requirements. (10%)
A redesigned consent management platform (CMP) that could be used by the owners of your example to improve design of their consent management notices. Produce interface mockups of the CMP being implemented in your example to improve the data consent experience. Also include text narration explaining why/how the CMP is an improvement - this may include reference to any literature from this course, including GDPR requirements but also earlier literature. It's your choice how you choose to produce the interface mockups. Figma is recommended if your group has minimal background in interface design/development, although any tool would be allowable. (30%)

2. Data donation platform design (50%)

Identify an application/product that you will incorporate data donation into. Purposes for incorporating data donation could be a) to enable a new type of AI implementation in the product, b) to improve the quality of an existing AI implementation in the product, c) to support more consensual collection of data for an existing AI implementation in the product, etc. Your data donation journey must support data contextualization in some way. Create interface mockups of a data donation journey for the application. Your goal is to make this prototype as realistic as possible, meaning the practicality, relevance, and specificity of the data collected should be considered.

Submit documentation for the following:

Identify the applications/products you integrated data donation into, along with ample explanation for why data donation is needed in the application. You may choose to include screenshots of how the application is currently designed to demonstrate the need or opportunity for data donation. (15%)
Your low fidelity prototype of data donation for the application, along with ample explanation for how the user interacts with it. Also include justification for your design choices. The audience of your documentation should have a strong sense of your thinking and design choices here. (35%)
